Carbon Reduction Plan

Executive Summary

Med Automation Ltd (trading as Otua) is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, in line with UK Government policy and NHS sustainability objectives.

As a provider of AI-enabled digital health services to NHS and private healthcare organisations, we recognise our responsibility to minimise environmental impact while delivering resilient, secure, and efficient digital solutions. Sustainability is integral to our long-term operational resilience, procurement readiness, and responsible innovation strategy.

This Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) has been prepared in accordance with Procurement Policy Note (PPN) 06/21 and outlines our emissions baseline, reduction targets, and planned carbon-reduction initiatives. The plan covers emissions across Scope 1, Scope 2, and relevant Scope 3 categories, using the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol as the primary reporting framework.

Our baseline assessment identifies Scope 3 emissions, particularly cloud computing, IT services, procurement, and employee travel, as the most material sources of emissions. As a result, our carbon-reduction strategy prioritises digital efficiency, supplier engagement, remote-first working, and sustainable procurement practices.

Med Automation Ltd operates a certified Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with ISO 14001, ensuring environmental risks, emissions, and sustainability objectives are formally identified, managed, monitored, and continually improved as part of our integrated governance framework.

1. Commitment to Achieving Net Zero

Med Automation Ltd commits to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050, aligned with:

We recognise that as a small, digital-first organisation our direct emissions are low, however, we remain committed to reducing indirect value-chain emissions through proportionate, evidence-based measures.

Our Net Zero commitment is supported by our ISO 14001-certified Environmental Management System, which provides a structured framework for identifying environmental aspects, setting measurable objectives, monitoring performance, and driving continual improvement. Carbon reduction activities under this plan are managed, reviewed, and evidenced through this system.

2. Understanding Our Emissions

Scope 1 – Direct Emissions

Scope 2 – Purchased Energy

Scope 3 – Value Chain Emissions

Scope 3 emissions represent the largest proportion of our carbon footprint and are the primary focus of our reduction strategy.

3. Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline Year: 2024

Emissions Category Total (tCO2e)
Scope 1 2
Scope 2 22
Scope 3 (included sources) 50
Total 74

Key baseline assumptions:

4. Current Emissions Reporting (2025)

Emissions Category Total (tCO2e)
Scope 1 2
Scope 2 20
Scope 3 46
Total 68

This represents an 8% reduction from baseline, achieved through:

5. Emissions Reduction Targets

Targets will be reviewed annually to ensure continued alignment with business growth and regulatory expectations.

6. Carbon Reduction Initiatives

Completed Initiatives (2024–2025)

Planned Initiatives (2026–2030)

7. Monitoring and Reporting

Carbon reduction activities and emissions performance at Med Automation Ltd are managed through our ISO 14001-certified Environmental Management System (EMS).

The EMS provides a structured and auditable framework to ensure that environmental impacts, including greenhouse gas emissions, are systematically identified, assessed, monitored, and continually improved. In particular, the EMS ensures that:

Progress against this Carbon Reduction Plan is reviewed at least annually as part of EMS and wider Integrated Management System governance. Updates to emissions data, targets, and initiatives will be reflected in revised versions of this plan, which will be published as required to support transparency and compliance with UK public sector procurement requirements.

8. Declaration and Sign-Off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and supporting UK Government guidance.
